One Ordinary Family on an Extraordinary Adventure

One Year Traveling | Sicily’s Story | Learning Across America

This week, the family is taking over the Learning Across America blog. Each family member will be sharing their stories about our first year of full-time travel. Pull up a camp chair, and see what we’ve been up to.

One Year Traveling | Sicily’s Story

Sicily2My name is Sicily, and I am 5 years old. My family wanted to go on a trip to travel around the states. We moved into an RV and we traveled around the states. We haven’t gone to all the states.

Everywhere we go we make new friends. I like to play dodge ball and medic and football with my friends.

My favorite state is Mississippi. I read about Mississippi before we left in a book called The Scrambled States of America. In that book, Mississippi is purple. Purple is my favorite color and that is why I like Mississippi. We went to Mississippi and when we went to the park it was full of bees. We also went to Vicksburg and we drove around to see what it looks like.

We went to a lot of national parks.

I can hula hoop. Can you?

I can hula hoop. Can you?

I learned how to hula hoop. It is really hard. My big sister Bella showed me how to do it.

I went on a jumping pillow, and it was really fun. I liked going to the beach. I got a lot of shells. My friend Yuko gave me a bag full of shells. She gave me a sun catcher too.

Sicily! I loved your story about what you have been doing since you left home. I heard there are big snakes in Mississippi? Did you see any? That is why Mississippi would NEVER be my favorite state – even if it WAS purple! My favorite state is Hawaii because they don’t have any snakes there – except in the zoo. That is my kind of state! (snakes REALLY scare me) Maybe if you ever come back to California for a visit, you could teach Abigail how to hula hoop and the two of you could put on a hula hoop show?! Keep telling us about your trip – I love to read your stories!
